The Psychology of Home: Why Where You Live Means... →
Most Westerners believe that “your psychology, and your consciousness
and your subjectivity don’t really depend on the place where you live,”
Sax says. “They come from inside — from inside your brain, or inside your
soul or inside your personality.” But for many South Asian communities,
a home isn’t just where you are, it’s who you are.
Interesting read, especially for this Army...

The 25 Most Exquisitely Sad Songs in the Whole... →
Puh-leeze. I could out-sad this list in my sleep. There are some good picks here, but no Nina Simone?
Try this mix I made if you want pure, desolate sadness (I know you do!):

My Hometown Is Better Than Yours →
“Seattle is objectively superior to the place you grew up.”
I would be proud to call Seattle my hometown. It is pretty much superior to the places I grew up.

If there were to be something so ridiculous as my life story made into a TV miniseries, this would be its soundtrack.
This mix, my first on Mixcloud is truly a high/low point in terms of outright self-indulgence. Whatevs. It simply had to be done.
Onward and upward, shall we?

A mix of folk and such type music. Including: Nick Drake, The Accidental, Bridget St John, Mountain Man, Woods, Jeff Mangum, and more.

I took this timelapse during sunset the other evening. It was a particularly beautiful day here in Seattle, the first day of the year with highs in the 70’s. I went up on the roof of my apartment building for the first time to see what I could see. It wasn’t a bad view. And so I took some photos and captured this timelapse of the sun dipping behind the Olympic Mountains.

Done With The Dashboard
Several folks I consider to be good friends are following this blog through Tumblr, so I wanted to write a quick note about how I am using Tumblr as a blogging platform. Essentially, I’m done with the dashboard. If I read your blog, on Tumblr or otherwise, it will be read the same way in which I read all blogs: via RSS in my feed reader.
I’ve been a Tumblr user for a number of years....

Panning for Gold: Sifting and Rinsing Links from...
Or not.
The other day I tried tackling this little problem I’ve created for myself. I’ll sum it up for you as succinctly as possible:
I want to create an RSS feed generated from links posted by folks I follow on Twitter, with certain things filtered out—photos, mostly.
Apparently, this is easier stated than actually accomplished. Allow me to explain.
When considering this problem I...

Quitting Smoking: One Year Out
One year ago I quit smoking after doing it full-time for over fifteen years. I decided to quit cold turkey. I haven’t had a cigarette since. (Not in my waking life, at least.) It wasn’t easy, and I still to this day miss the ritual of smoking, but I did it—I quit. And I have to admit that I am kind of proud of it. I’m not one who is known for his will power, especially when it...

Some Music I Made
[Note: This post was originally posted to a previous incarnation of this blog]
I joined Soundcloud.com recently and uploaded a few tracks. Here’s something from the very first time I performed live in front of an audience. It was at the first installment of this thing my friend Derek Morton created called Open Minijax, an open mic night for electronic/laptop musicians. (See this little...

Sword & Sworcery EP Micro on iPhone
I’m not a big gamer but I do enjoy a well-crafted story. Some of my favorite games are adventure games like the ones from Sierra and action/adventure titles like Legend of Zelda and Metroid. Superbrothers’ Sword & Sworcery EP, which just came out for the iPhone after debuting last month on the iPad, seems to be very much in the spirit of those games.
I have only played through the...
